Have You Heard About Jujube?

Young fruit

Ripe Jujube

There are many species of Jujube. One of the species of Jujube are Red Date, Giant Jujube, Green Jujube and a lot more. It originated in China where they have been cultivated for over 4,000 years.

Last year, I bought a green jujube tree. I asked my brother to plant it in our small farm. It grew to almost 6 feet now and it already bear fruits. I know that jujube is not so familiar but it is widely used in China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. Some jujube species are also available in the United States.

In some land, the jujube fruits are being used to alleviate stress and to treat sore throat and colds. It is also being used in culinary to mixed with tea or make candies out of the the dried fruits. Further it used to to keep bugs and other insects out of the house and free of infestation. The leaves can also be used as potpourri.

Honestly, when I bought it, I do not know what are its benefits, I only like the taste of the fruits and so curious why the seedlings are so saleable and why does most of the people who bought those seedlings are given as gifts. Now, I understand that jujube are rare in our country and it has various advantage.

Thanks a lot for the info! My 6 year old daughter and I were just discussing about jujube. In her Tinker bell magazine, there's a horoscope portion. My daughter's a Cancer and it said her fruit is Jujube. She kept asking me about it and thank goodness I found the answer in your blog ;-)
